About Watched on TV
Our story from handwritten notes to a digital platform for tracking what you watch
Watched on TV began as something very small. My wife and I loved watching shows together and swapping recommendations with friends and family. We'd often jot things down on scraps of paper, a series title scribbled on the back of an envelope, or a film name squeezed into the margin of a shopping list. The problem was, those little notes rarely survived. They got lost, ignored, or buried under everyday life.
To make it easier, we eventually started a proper Watched on TV book. It was a handwritten journal where we logged what we'd watched and what people suggested we try next. At first it worked beautifully. If someone recommended Line of Duty over Sunday lunch, or Silent Witness came up in a chat with friends, we'd write it down. Later, when we had time to relax, we could flip through the book and pick something out.
But as the years went by, the amount of content exploded. Between streaming platforms, catch-up services, and good old broadcast TV, there were more films and series than ever before. The book started to feel limiting. Finding one note — say, "Watch Pulp Fiction again, Tarantino at his best" — meant rifling through pages and pages. Searching was slow, and recommendations from friends were sometimes forgotten altogether.
That frustration became the seed for this site.
Watched on TV takes everything we loved about the book — the lists, the quick notes, the personal reviews — and turns it into something simple, searchable, and shareable. Here, you can:
- • Keep a "what to watch" list that doesn't get lost in a pile of paper.
- • Add short reviews or reminders to yourself like "Really liked this series" or "Much better than the first season."
- • Organise films and TV shows by title, genre, or channel.
- • Share recommendations with family and friends so nothing slips through the cracks.
- • Look back on your history and rediscover things you might have forgotten.
At its heart, Watched on TV is about making those shared viewing experiences easier to remember and enjoy. Whether it's a gripping series like Line of Duty, a long-running drama like Silent Witness, or a classic film like Pulp Fiction, every title becomes part of your story once you've watched it. This site helps you hold onto that story, instead of letting it vanish into half-remembered conversations or misplaced notes.
What started as a book on our coffee table has grown into a platform for keeping track of shows, films, and recommendations — for us, for our family and friends, and now for anyone who loves the simple question: what should we watch tonight?
